Sales and Receivables Summary
Sales and Receivables Summary records summarized revenue, receivables, sales tax, customer receipts, and supporting evidence.
Current desktop availability
Sales and Receivables preparation and posting behavior is implemented behind services, but the current desktop has no supported entry point for creating or importing Sales facts. This page describes BooksPlus 1.0 scope and accounting boundaries, not a procedure users can perform now. Sales-tax capability, seller/facilitator preparation, durable return control, remittance posting, and the non-posting Finance bank match now exist behind services.
Workflow family placement: Operating Transaction Capture / Revenue & receivables.
See Accounting Imports and Batch Review for the shared import, evidence, review, approval, and posting process used across Sales and Receivables, Purchasing and Payables, Inventory, and Banking and Finance Summary.
- Accept or enter summarized income activity from external operations.
- Link source documents, external references, and supporting schedules.
- Review revenue, receivable, sales-tax, deposit, and receipt accounting before posting.
- Post approved accounting effects through the normal posting path.
- Preserve the audit trail for income activity.
For imported tax, BooksPlus preserves the determination supplied by the operational system, marketplace, reviewed user source, or connected provider; it does not silently recalculate it. Seller-owned tax posts to Sales Tax Payable. Tax supported as marketplace-facilitator or other statutory-collector responsibility must not create a seller payable. It remains held unless its capability profile, responsibility evidence, ownership components, and control totals satisfy the canonical contract.
The initial-release boundary also includes planned control for sufficiently detailed filing summaries: reconciliation to posted Sales Tax Payable, authorized review, externally completed return and payment evidence, remittance accounting, and later bank linkage. BooksPlus will not transmit the return or initiate the payment. This detailed workflow remains unavailable until its implementation and desktop UAT are complete.
See Sales Tax and Remittance for the source-data requirements, responsibility boundary, intended remittance workflow, and supporting-document checklist.
Distinct Sales-source customer payments use receipts-for-deposit clearing. A later Banking and Finance Summary event clears the deposit into the bank. The shared source references keep both stages linked without posting either event twice.
Initial release boundary
For the initial release, BooksPlus does not own operational sales, customer invoice, collection, payment-processing, banking, purchasing, or perpetual inventory work. Those activities remain in external operational systems. BooksPlus accounts for the summarized income facts that are accepted into the accounting workflow.
