Current Period Workbench

Use Current Period to review the open period, post an ordinary manual journal entry, work with existing Summary batches, and inspect posted accounting and its support.

Current desktop boundary

The current desktop supports manual entry, the generic Summary Transaction Desk, Summary and posted-entry registers, Source Document review, an exception queue, and Support Detail drilldown.

It does not provide file intake, Sales and Receivables, Purchasing and Payables, Inventory, or Banking and Finance fact-entry screens. Corrections and canonical Period Close also have no supported desktop entry point. Do not use ordinary manual entry to imitate one of those unavailable workflows.

Before beginning

Ordinary manual posting requires:

  • completed Setup readiness;
  • a posting date in an open or reopened fiscal month;
  • at least two active accounts that permit routine posting;
  • the company reporting currency on every line;
  • understandable source support and an explanation; and
  • authority for the protected posting action.

The workbench header shows its focus period, posting eligibility, and onboarding summary. With no requested date, BooksPlus focuses the open period containing today or the earliest open period. Confirm the displayed company and period before entering work.

Review the workbench

Start at the header and the Summary Transaction Desk, then use the support tabs as needed:

Area What to review
Summary Transaction Desk The selected existing batch, evidence, prepared accounting, readiness, posting check, next action, and outcome
Manual Entry An ordinary two-line journal entry candidate
Support Detail Source, accounting, workflow, and audit detail loaded from another action
Summary Register Existing batches in the focused period, including status, source, issues, evidence, preview totals, and Details
Posted Entries Posted entries in the focused period, their source, totals, Use Entry, Source, and Audit actions
Source Documents Evidence references and whether a document can support new posting
Exceptions Current blockers, warnings, and suggested recovery labels

The Summary Register and Posted Entries register are period-focused when BooksPlus can identify a focus fiscal month; otherwise they show their company-wide scope. The separate Ledger is always company-wide.

Validate an ordinary manual entry

  1. Open the Manual Entry tab.
  2. Enter the Posting date and Source date as yyyy-mm-dd.
  3. Enter a recognizable Source document / reference and a clear Explanation.
  4. For each of the two lines, select the account and enter either a debit or a credit, the company currency, and a useful line description.
  5. Choose Validate Entry.
  6. Review the posting-eligibility message, debit and credit totals, difference, and every validation message.

The entry must have two meaningful lines, each line must carry a positive debit or credit but not both, all lines must use one currency, and total debits must equal total credits. Validation is a preview: it does not persist a draft, Source Document, journal entry, or audit event.

Post the manual entry

  1. Recheck the source reference, explanation, posting date, accounts, amounts, currency, and line descriptions.
  2. Choose Post Manual Entry.
  3. If posting is blocked, correct the displayed validation messages and validate again. If authorization or central Accounting rejects the action, no journal entry or Source Document is created.
  4. On success, note the JE- journal-entry number and audit reference.

Successful posting creates the Source Document and balanced journal entry through central Accounting, clears the entry fields for the next candidate, and refreshes the workbench and Ledger data. Review the result under Posted Entries, then continue to Ledger Review.

Inspect source and audit detail

In Posted Entries:

  • choose Source to load the entry and Source Document into Support Detail;
  • choose Audit to load the entry and posting audit evidence; or
  • choose Use Entry only when a separate approved routine entry should start with those values.

Use Entry prepares an ordinary entry candidate. It does not create a reversal, adjustment, correction link, or safe duplicate. Do not use it to correct a posted entry. The supported Corrections screen is not yet available.

In Source Documents, choose Details to inspect the selected evidence. A superseded document cannot support a new routine posting; prior evidence and posted accounting remain historical.

Review exceptions

The Exceptions tab brings together incomplete setup, held or failed Summary batches, manual-entry validation or posting failures, and register-load problems. Read the severity, message, and suggested action. The labels explain where recovery belongs; they are not buttons and do not bypass the governing workflow.

Existing Summary batches

Use the desk only for batches already present in the company. See Summary Batch Review for the visible review, limited preview repair, posting, and recovery actions.
