ADR 0026: Initial Release Single-Currency Boundary

Context

BooksPlus preserves an explicit currency with every accounting amount, but the initial release has no accepted foreign-currency conversion, remeasurement, revaluation, translation, or exchange-gain-and-loss policy.

Allowing foreign-currency posting before those rules exist would make ledger balances and financial statements incomplete or misleading.

Decision

Each company has one base or reporting currency for the initial release.

Every posted journal entry and each of its lines must use that company currency. Summary Accounting facts and prepared previews must use the same currency.

Source facts may preserve a foreign currency, foreign amount, and exchange-rate evidence. A fact that requires currency conversion, remeasurement, revaluation, translation, or exchange-gain-and-loss accounting remains held and non-postable.

The initial release does not provide:

  • foreign-currency ledger posting;
  • currency conversion or exchange-rate selection;
  • realized or unrealized exchange-gain-and-loss accounting;
  • foreign-currency balance revaluation;
  • financial-statement translation; or
  • multi-currency consolidation.

A later accepted multi-currency decision may add those capabilities without changing the requirement that every amount carry explicit currency.

Consequences

  • Company setup selects one durable launch reporting currency.
  • Imports and adapters preserve unsupported foreign-currency evidence instead of silently converting it.
  • Trial balance and financial statements use one company currency.
  • Provider exchange-rate evidence remains evidence and does not authorize posting.
